The US leg of the Asylum tour, was the biggest tour KISS had done in years, and so was the show! Picture 1 shows the main bulk of the stage set, which basically was the Animalize stage, with the ramps seen on each side of Eric's drum kit, which again were on a movable riser!! The ramps would be on or off the stage depending on the size of the hall!

Something entirely new was the enormous KISS logo behind the band! The logo used since 1976 had been retired and this new one had multicolored lights installed into them (as seen here in picture 2). A company called Vari-Lights had produced these stage lights which could change color, and these were used to build the new KISS logo!! As you also can see in picture 2 is, how the stage looked without the ramps... instead there were a generous amount of amplifiers! Also depending on the size of the stage, they sometimes used a carpet on the stage floor made up like the cover of the Asylum album!

Set list:

The set list would vary a great deal during this tour, but it was something like this:

1. Detroit Rock City
2. Fits Like A Glove
3.
Cold Gin
4. Uh! All Night
5. Under The Gun
- guitar solo (Bruce)
6. I Still Love You
- bass solo
7. I Love It Loud
- guitar solo (Paul)
8. Tears Are Falling
- drum solo
9. War Machine

10. Love Gun
11. Heaven’s On Fire

12. Rock And Roll All Nite

Encores:
13. Lick It Up

Songs occasionally performed:
Creatures of the Night, Anyway you slice it (at least once), King of the Mountain (at least twice), Strutter, Calling Dr. Love, and parts of Black Diamond!
Performed as an encore at the shows in December 1985, were The Who's "Won't Get Fooled Again". The band played the entire song, with Paul, Gene and Eric each singing a verse!

Picture 3 shows the enormous lighting rig!!

The Asylum shows would start with the lights being dimmed in the arena, and a loud humming sound would appear from the speakers. If the arena was big enough to hold the entire show, the band would then be lifted up behind Eric's drum kit, just like on the Animalize tour. Otherwise the band would just walk on stage.
Most of the show would continue like the Animalize shows.

Another new thing were the extended solo's played on this tour. Already in the 70's all members of the band had their own solo's, but this tour was almost dominated by long (read: boring) solos.

Something new was, that Gene used Ace's rocket shooting trick during his solo. Just like Ace had done on the 1979 and 1980 tours, Gene would shoot rockets into the lightning rig, where they would appear to explode (see picture 4)!

Next solo would often be Bruce's.
He played a long melodious solo, with Eric joining in on the drums at some point to play a rhythm!

Eric's drum kit was bigger than ever, and as you can see in picture 5, he also had some electronic drum pads on his kit now.
These were used during his drum solo, were he would play a tune, while also playing the solo. It sounded great, and had to be really tough to pull off.
Like in the Animalize show, the drum riser would roll forward to the edge of the stage, and at the end of the solo, Eric would jump up on the bass drums, and some fireworks would go off besides him (as also seen in picture 5!).

Another new effect appeared at the end of "Love Gun". For the final "machine gun" drum roll in the song, Paul would point his guitar like a gun towards the lighting rig. Large fireworks would go off to the rhythm of the drum roll.

The set would end with "Rock And Roll All Nite" as usual, and also as usual the stage would be covered with a confetti storm (see picture 6) , and Paul would smash his guitar into pieces during the last encore: "Lick It Up".
