Ebay Talk

Post by Kiss777 »

There seems to be a lot people out there having trouble with ebay, this can be a place to get some help or advice.

I'll start it off with tip #1
A sellers feedback really does give you an ideal who your dealing with, I like to deal with sellers that have a 95% or better rating, however I have dealt with sellers that were in the 80% range and things still worked out fine, and no one should expect a seller to have 100% as some people will leave you bad feedback just because you expect them to pay for their bid.

I go and look at why negative feedback was left. I look for a trend in the feedback. I look at what they are selling. If it too good to be true it probably is...even on eBay.

In 8 years being on eBay I have only two negatives. So, I have a good rating. This is important because I want sellers and buyers to have faith in me.

Great stuff 77 yes by all means you should read why they got a negative and yes is there a pattern here.
Tip #2 really comes in a personal opinion, I feel you should at least have average computer skills to even be on ebay, ebay can be a tough place to learn.

Tip #3 Spoof (fake) emails claiming to be from ebay or from a seller can be a very big problem on ebay, here's how you don't get taken in....
Sign it to your ebay account, go to "My Ebay" and on the left hand side you will see a list, click on "My Messages" if that message claiming to be from ebay is not in there it is a spoof (fake) I turn all spoof messages right over to ebay (they know what to do with them :peitsch: )
Now of course after you talk to a seller many times he might just send you a email right from his email without going through ebay, this is normal but keep in mind ebay does not see that message.
And I got to say any deal off ebay is very high risk.
Stick with me I'll make an ebayer out of ya

Tip #4 Shipping, when buying an item on ebay shipping shouldn't just be a after thought, some sellers will give you a low price on the item and then charge you a crazy high price to ship it, this is common on computer flat panel monitors for some reason ($89 :motz: ) or they will sell you a nice item (Kisstory book) and ship it to you media mail for cheap, cheap shipping is not good if your item is not receiving the proper care, I like to ship UPS not the cheapest but I feel worth the money, and this is important also, some people will sell you a $1,500.00 guitar but won't even offer insurance on it, I myself wouldn't buy a big money item without insurance, even with insurance there is no guarantee Fedex, UPS or whoever will pay the claim if your item is damaged but at least you have a chance :OK:

Tip #5 Trades are not allowed on ebay and if you do so you will be doing at your own risk (and that's a fact)

Tip #6 ever wonder why some sellers don't take credit cards? No it's not because they are looking to rip you off  the real reason it because ebay charge's them another 3% to do so, and many sellers feel with the listing fee's + finel value fee's that they are paying ebay enough already.
With the low selling price on ebay most sellers are not getting rich anyway so they just choose not to add another fee, send the money order and write down the money order # it can be traced if there is a problem.

Tip #7 most of the ebay sellers that have been around for a while and have a proven track record are not looking to rip you off, they like quick payments and buyers that don't make problems for them, pay quick and follow there listing rules and most times they will smile on you.

Tip #8 Terms of your deal is all on that listing page, in other words if on the listing page the seller wrote he don't offer insurance on the item, but he tell's you in an email "yeah don't worry dude I'll insure it for you, or I'll throw in another guitar pedal for you" get him to put that in the listing page, why? because that is the deal that ebay holds him to, nothing more.
Most people that blame ebay for their bad deals are one's that get pulled into breaking ebay rules, and please don't misunderstand I'm not waving the ebay flag but if your gonna win the game you must play the game the way it's set up...not the way you would like it to be
And for your own good if you run in to a problem with a seller don't get into a mud slinging contest with him, stay cool and try to work it out otherwise he will be pulling out every weapon to bring you down he can.
By now you should be coming a lean mean ebay machine

Tip #9 I have found in my buying experience on ebay that the item condition tends to be one step down for the most part, in other words if the seller says it's in excellant condition I most times receive it in what I would call very good condition, he says good most times that just means fair, so when I buy I keep this in mind and most times I'm not let down.
It's all a matter of opinion really, but my standards are high so some of this could just be me.
And I wouldn't recommend you leave him bad feedback just because it's a bit off the mark, pick your battles when leaving bad feedback it may come back to hurt you otherwise.
Who is Kiss777 and why would I think he could help me on ebay? well I'm a former 3 time ebay power seller, I have over 500 buying and selling transactions with ebay, and have some background in sale's and computers that does not hurt as well
But you can do it too, use your head, stay cool, and use these tips.
