weird - I thought all the stories said his ad said "drummer, willing to do anything..." ?

yes, I thought the same.

I bought the book from Lydia Criss "Sealed with a Kiss".
There is the whole story.... She wrote about the magazine, issue, date and the text about Peters ad.
And she wrote about the magazine where they searched for Ace.

The part with the ads are Differently.... So look for the "Rolling Stone" from New York area.

Found at wikipedia.com ... Wicket Lester:

The first new member added to Wicked Lester was drummer Peter Criss, who had placed an ad in Rolling Stone. The ad stated, "EXPD. ROCK & roll drummer looking for orig. grp. doing soft & hard music. Peter, Brooklyn."
